RIDE AND SUPPORT
When you ride the Seattle Century, you’re supporting Bike Works, an admirable non-profit organization.
ABOUT BIKE WORKS
Bike Works empowers youth to lead healthy and productive lives by using bicycle as tools for learning.
Bike Works reaches youth who are not usually attracted to traditional enrichment activities and helps them realize their own self-worth in a community that will support, encourage and strengthen them. Their programs introduce youth to the joy and freedom of bicycle riding, and provide opportunities for them to explore their worlds by bicycle.
Through their community programs and non-profit bike shop, Bike Works makes bicycling accessible and affordable to people from all walks of life. Bike Works donates recycled bicycles to community-based organizations that serve homeless and disadvantaged populations and to villages in Ghana and El Salvador in partnership with the Village Bicycle Project.
Bike Works promotes sustainable transportation and environmental stewardship. Bicycle that are donated to them are refurbished and distributed to the community, one less bike in the landfill that may perhaps encourage one less car on the road. Their youth programs encourage bicycling as an alternative and fun means of transportation, and as an exciting way to explore the world while being good stewards to our natural environment.
